Abstract: An embedded vision system implemented using an EDGE Zynq-Z7010 FPGA board operating under the PYNQ framework for real-time image capture and image processing. The system comprises a USB camera coupled to a Zynq-Z7010 System-on-Chip having a dual-core ARM Cortex-A9 processing subsystem integrated with programmable logic through a high-speed AXI interconnect. Video frames captured by the camera are transferred to the processing system where color-space conversion, filtering and enhancement operations are performed using hardware-accelerated overlays configured through a Python-based PYNQ interface without requiring hardware description language programming. The processed image data is made available for further analysis, storage and display. The disclosed system provides a low-cost, low-power and reconfigurable platform capable of performing real-time image processing suitable for embedded and edge-computing applications including surveillance, robotics and automated inspection.
