MUMBAI, India, Oct. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511082801 A) filed by Lotus Herbals Pvt. Ltd. on September 01, 2025, for Emulsion-Based Sunscreen Cosmetic Composition With Enhanced Uv Protection Via Hydrosome Structure And Biopolymer Complexation.
Inventors include Nitin Passi; Dipin Passi; and Antaryami Jena.
The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.
Abstract: The invention relates to an emulsion-based water-activated sunscreen cosmetic composition in the field of cosmetic and dermatological UV protection. The technical problem addressed is the loss of UV protection efficacy upon moisture exposure and the need for frequent reapplication of conventional sunscreens. The composition comprises: (a) one or more UV protectants (7%–40% w/w); (b) a hydrosome structure-forming agent comprising sorbitan stearate and sucrose cocoate (0.5%–10% w/w); (c) hydrophilic modified chitosan as a complexing agent (0.25%–5% w/w); and (d) colloidal silicon dioxide (0.1%–2% w/w). The four components synergistically form a lamellar gel network that encapsulates UV protectants, enhances photostability, and anchors the film to the skin. Upon water immersion for up to 80 minutes, the in vitro SPF increases relative to the pre-immersion value, with a UV protection power increase rate of up to +200.1%. The composition provides broad- spectrum UV protection, water resistance, and a non-sticky sensory profile.
