MUMBAI, India, Aug. 10 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202511001218 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Delhi on January 06, 2025, for Engineered Bacillus Subtilis Strains For Xylose And Glucose Co-Utilization For 2,3-Butanediol Production.

Inventors include Ashish Misra; and Ngangom Pravina Devi.

The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a genetically engineered Bacillus subtilis strain designed for efficient xylose utilization and high-yield production of 2,3-butanediol under oxygen-limited conditions. This strain robustly co-utilizes glucose and xylose without diauxic growth, even in bioreactor cultivation, providing a sustainable and cost-effective method for bio-based 2,3-BDO production without the need for antibiotics or inducers during cultivation process.
