Abstract: The present invention relates to an oil-in-water nanoemulsion of eucalyptus (E. globulus) essential oil, and a method of its preparation, for inhibiting growth, biofilm formation and quorum sensing in multidrug-resistant N gonorrhoeae. The nanoemulsion comprises eucalyptus essential oil, a non-ionic surfactant such as Tween 80, ethanol as co-surfactant and water, prepared by spontaneous emulsification followed by ultrasonication to yield stable nanoscale droplets with a slightly negative zeta potential. The formulation exhibits potent antibacterial activity, low minimum inhibitory and bactericidal concentrations, concentration-dependent biofilm inhibition and marked anti-quorum sensing activity against drug-resistant gonococcal isolates. By converting a volatile, poorly soluble essential oil into a stable, multi-target nanoformulation, the invention provides an inexpensive plant-based alternative to failing antibiotics
