Abstract: The present invention relates to comprehensive toxicological evaluation of ethanolic extract of Litchi chinensis pericarp through systematic assessment protocols encompassing acute, subacute, and subchronic oral toxicity studies in Wistar albino rats. The methodology employs standardized Soxhlet extraction with ethanol yielding extract administered at doses up to two thousand milligrams per kilogram body weight. Acute toxicity study following OECD guideline four hundred twenty-three demonstrated no mortality or adverse effects during fourteen-day observation establishing median lethal dose exceeding two thousand milligrams per kilogram. Subacute toxicity evaluation at doses of four hundred and eight hundred milligrams per kilogram for twenty-eight days revealed no treatment-related alterations in clinical observations, body weights, hematological or biochemical parameters. Subchronic toxicity study employing doses of two hundred fifty and one thousand milligrams per kilogram for ninety days demonstrated absence of mortality with normal hematological and biochemical profiles. Histopathological examination of vital organs including heart, liver, lungs, kidneys, and spleen confirmed normal tissue architecture without morphological alterations. Results establish safety profile of Litchi chinensis pericarp extract suitable for therapeutic applications.
