Abstract: The Explainable AI for Skin Cancer: Gradient-Weighted Class Activation Mapping Enhanced Detection with Risk-Aware Recommendations system is an intelligent healthcare solution developed to support the early identification of skin cancer and improve clinical decision-making. Skin cancer is one of the most common forms of cancer worldwide, and timely diagnosis is critical for effective treatment and patient survival. The proposed system uses advanced technologies such as deep learning, image analysis, and explainable artificial intelligence to automatically detect suspicious skin lesions and assist in medical evaluation. The system allows users or healthcare professionals to upload dermoscopic or skin lesion images through a web-based or digital interface. Using trained Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) models, the system analyzes the visual patterns of the lesion and classifies it into appropriate categories, such as benign or malignant. To improve transparency and trust, the model is integrated with Gradient-Weighted Class Activation Mapping (Grad-CAM), which highlights the important regions of the image that influenced the prediction, making the diagnostic output more interpretable. This solution aims to enhance dermatological care by improving diagnostic accuracy, increasing accessibility to early screening tools, and promoting awareness about skin health. The Explainable AI for Skin Cancer system can play a significant role in reducing delayed diagnosis, supporting telemedicine applications, and strengthening preventive healthcare practices through reliable, transparent, and intelligent medical technology.
