MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641090005 A) filed by Dr. Senthil Saravanan M S; Vaisakh P. S; Sreekumar E. N; Dr. J. B. Sajin; Dr. Sarath Raj; and Kiran Reghunath on July 24, 2026, for Fabrication Of Functionally Graded Aluminium Composite Through Tubular Metal Additive Extrusion (tmae) Technique.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a functionally graded aluminium-based composite rod (10) fabricated using a tubular metal additive extrusion (TMAE) technique. The composite rod (10) consists of a concentric layered structure comprising an outer aluminium region (12), an intermediate copper layer (14), and a central aluminium— carbon nanotube (Al—CNT) reinforced core (-16). The structure is prepared by machining concentric cavities in an aluminium billet, to filling the said cavities with copper powder and Al—CNT powder, and subjecting the resulting assembly to hot extrusion at approximately 550°C. The extrusion process ensures strong metallurgical bonding and uniform distribution of the constituent materials, resulting in enhanced mechanical strength, thermal conductivity and wear resistance. The composite rod (10) is particularly suited for aerospace, automotive drive shaft, heat exchanger and electrical 15 conductive applications, and provides a scalable and efficient approach for producing high- performance functionally graded materials with improved structural integrity and multifunctional properties.
