The application for the patent was published on July 31, 2026, under issue no. 31/2026.
Abstract: ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a fabrication process for preparing an SS 316L powder infused polymer extrusion feedstock for subsequent filament extrusion in material extrusion-based metal additive manufacturing. The extrusion feedstock comprises stainless steel 316L powder dispersed within a multicomponent binder system comprising a hydrocarbon-based wax, an ethylene based polyolefin and a long chain hydrocarbon based saturated fatty acid compound, wherein the stainless steel 316L powder is present in an amount ranging from 80 wt.% to 90 wt.%. The fabrication process comprises feedstock preparation using a counter-rotating twin-screw extrusion system including physical mixing, melt compounding, primary extrusion and re-extrusion to obtain a homogeneous extrusion feedstock. Extrusion temperatures are selected using differential scanning calorimetry and a loss factor-based melt rheological framework to establish an operating window of 110 °C to 120 °C. Thermogravimetric analysis validates the solid loading and provides decomposition information useful for thermal debinding.
