Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a fault-tolerant five-level switched-capacitor multilevel inverter (FT-SC-MLI) and its operation method for grid-integrated solar systems. The device features a main inverter stage powered by a single DC source and a switched-capacitor unit with a self-balancing capacitor that achieves a voltage boosting ratio of two. A series inductor is integrated to suppress inrush current and electromagnetic interference. To ensure reliability, a redundant fault-tolerant branch comprising auxiliary switches and diodes reconfigures current paths upon detecting open-circuit or short-circuit faults. The system utilizes a Phase Disposition Pulse Width Modulation (PD-PWM) controller and Phase-Locked Loop (PLL) to synchronize output with the grid while maintaining low harmonic distortion and constant common-mode voltage to suppress leakage currents. The redundant branch maintains continuous operation at three or five levels during single or multiple switch failures. This architecture significantly improves power quality and system uptime for renewable energy applications.
