Abstract: Abstract FAULT-TOLERANT CONTROL SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR A BRUSHLESS DC MOTOR DURING SIMULTANEOUS FAILURE OF HALL SENSORS The present invention relates to a fault-tolerant control system (100) for a Brushless DC (BLDC) motor (10) having a plurality of phase windings (11) and a set of Hall sensors (12a, 12b, 12c). A fault recognition and Hall signal reconstruction module (20) detects failure of at least two faulty Hall sensors (12a, 12b), generates a virtual electrical angle using a virtual electrical angle integrator (22) by integrating a mechanical speed of the rotor, detects and eliminates a phase error at each transition edge of the at least one healthy Hall sensor (12c) using a phase error detector (24) that directly resets the virtual electrical angle without proportional-integral filtering, and reconstructs virtual Hall signals corresponding to the faulty Hall sensors (12a, 12b) using a virtual Hall signal generator (26). A back-EMF estimator (30), a speed regulator (40) comprising a speed comparator (45), and a hysteresis current controller (50) operate upon the virtual Hall signals to generate switching control signals for a three-phase voltage source inverter (60) driving the phase windings (11), thereby maintaining commutation synchronization and closed-loop speed control of the BLDC motor (10), with an efficiency drop of less than 2% and reduced torque ripple, during simultaneous failure of the at least two faulty Hall sensors (12a, 12b).
