Abstract: The present disclosure proposes composite adsorbent beads (100) for removal of pharmaceutical contaminants from aqueous media, including paracetamol, using hydrochar-based biopolymer bead structures. The composite bead (100) comprises 0.7 to 1 weight percent of hydrochar (102), 1.5 to 1.8 weight percent of a sodium alginate matrix (104), 40 to 43 weight percent of MilliQ water (106), and 55 to 57 weight percent of ferric chloride (FeCl3) (108). The composite bead (100) exhibits active functional groups on its surface that facilitate removal of paracetamol from aqueous media through at least one of electrostatic interactions, hydrogen bonding, ion–dipole interactions, and surface complexation. The proposed composite bead (100) is a sustainable and cost-effective adsorbent bead that reduces reliance on powdered adsorbents and minimizes secondary pollution during water treatment. The proposed composite bead (100) is a hydrochar-based alginate composite bead suitable for paracetamol removal from aqueous media.
