Abstract: The present invention provides a fibre based packaging container for holding liquids, the packaging container comprising: a tubular wall component having an inner wall surface and an outer wall surface opposing the inner wall surface, the inner wall surface provided with a liquid impermeable layer and having a base sealing portion at one end of the tubular wall component; and a circular base component having an outer edge, an inner base surface and an outer base surface opposing the inner base surface, the inner base surface provided with a liquid impermeable layer and having: a circumferential region of the inner base surface, the circumferential region having a sealable lacquer coating, a fold line extending circumferentially around the inner base surface within the circumferential region of the inner base surface, and a wall sealing portion located on the inner base surface between the outer edge of the base and the fold line, wherein the wall sealing portion is folded at 80 to 100 degrees about the fold line to form a folded portion, wherein the folded portion and at least a portion of the base sealing portion are sealed to one another to form a base seam and provide a three dimensional container form, such that the sealable lacquer coating is present within the base seam between the wall and base components.
