Abstract: Title : Fish Scale-Based Biodegradable Plastics as Sustainable Alternatives to Traditional Plastics This invention explores the development of fish scale-based plastics as sustainable and biodegradable alternatives to traditional plastics. Through the extraction of collagen from fish scales and the formulation of FSAG and FSPVA plastics, we successfully produced materials with favourable mechanical properties, including tensile strength and Young’s modulus, with FSPVA showing superior performance. These findings demonstrate the potential of fish scale-based plastics as viable materials with desirable mechanical characteristics. By utilizing fish scales, a by-product of the fishing industry, we contribute to the circular economy and help reduce environmental pollution from plastic waste. Fish scale-based plastics offer a promising solution to the environmental challenges posed by traditional plastics, which rely on non-renewable resources and have long degradation times. In contrast, the biodegradable nature of fish scale-based plastics helps mitigate the environmental burden on ecosystems. The promising mechanical properties of FSAG and FSPVA plastics open up potential applications in industries such as packaging and biomedical devices. Overall, this invention highlights the potential of utilizing renewable resources and biodegradable materials to create a more sustainable approach to plastic production, serving as a step toward reducing plastic waste and fostering environmental sustainability.
