Abstract: A fuel impurity detection device and fuel theft prevention method and apparatus for a vehicle are provided. Existing fuel sensor measurement head / rod is modified by installing at least one additional rod. The fuel sensor is then first time calibrated wherein fuel level and quality parameters are stored into a memory of the fuel sensor. An interface is also provided to a fleet manager / user to safeguard vehicles fuel from theft and detect possible impurities in fuel. The disclosed method and apparatus incorporate features including, fuel level reporting, detection of fuel impurities and layered communication protocols. The device detects fuel theft and triggers impurity alerts to a fleet manager. The fleet manager can also send later calibrations to the fuel sensor.
