Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and system for flood inundation mapping and hydrodynamic analysis of urban river basins using hydraulic modeling and geospatial analysis techniques. The invention integrates Hydrologic Engineering Center's River Analysis System (HEC-RAS) with Geographic Information System (GIS) tools for assessment of flood behavior, inundation extent, and hydraulic characteristics within urban environments. River geometry is developed using cross- sectional data, river centerline information, and Digital Elevation Models (DEMs). Hydraulic simulations are performed under both steady-flow and unsteady-flow conditions while incorporating varying Manning's roughness coefficients to evaluate their influence on flood behavior. The generated outputs include water surface elevations, flood depths, flow velocities, and inundation extents. These outputs are integrated with GIS to produce flood hazard maps and identify vulnerable regions. The invention provides a systematic approach for flood risk assessment, urban planning, drainage management, and flood mitigation in rapidly urbanizing river basin..
