Abstract: This invention relates to a sustainable method for controlling pod fly (Melanagromyza obtusa) infestations in pigeon pea crops using extracts from Datura stramonium. The method involves extracting alkaloids such as atropine and scopolamine, which possess natural insecticidal properties, and formulating them into a foliar spray with surfactants and stabilizers. Applied during critical stages of crop growth, such as flowering and pod formation, the spray disrupts larval development and deters oviposition, significantly reducing pest populations and enhancing yields. This botanical approach offers a cost-effective, environmentally friendly alternative to synthetic pesticides, minimizing chemical residues and supporting integrated pest management practices.
