MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611079443 A) filed by Ajay Kumar Garg Engineering College on June 27, 2026, for Foldable Biodegradable Liquid Containment Apparatus And Working Method Thereof.
Inventors include Shivam Prajapati; Dr. Ruchi Gupta; Dr. Anupama Sharma; Dr. Shivani Agarwal; and Mr. Sumit Sharma.
The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.
Abstract: The present invention discloses a foldable biodegradable liquid containment apparatus comprising a fibrous structural vessel body (100) formed from sugarcane bagasse reinforced with cellulose nanofibers (108), an accordion-style fold zone (101) enabling repeated compression and expansion, and an internal hydrophobic barrier layer (102) comprising PLA-chitosan coating for waterproof liquid retention. The apparatus further comprises a bio-polymer threaded neck assembly (103), a compression sealing cap (104) providing hermetic sealing, a structural reinforcing rib network (105) for preventing fold-zone cracking, a rigid load-distributing base platform (106), and a biodegradable carrying strap (107). The invention provides a fully biodegradable, leak-proof, reusable, and compressible liquid container capable of maintaining structural integrity during multiple folding cycles. The invention further discloses a working method involving bagasse treatment, cellulose nanofiber preparation, hydraulic accordion molding, barrier-layer coating, thermal curing, and assembly operations for manufacturing the apparatus in an environmentally sustainable manner.
