The application for the patent was published on June 12, 2026, under issue no. 24/2026.
Abstract: The demand in aquaculture rises globally which remains consistent and so Is the nutrients required for its growth. One such aquatic animal is fish which is consumed widely by humans. The main nutrient compounds of fish feed required in fish culturing is protein (for growth in mass) and beta carotene (for'color in vision sight in case of ornamental fish). In this study, weused shed red leaves of Terminalia catappa as beta carotene source and detoxified seed kernel of Jatropha curcas as protein source for the formulation of fish feed. As this is incorporated under waste to wealth category, it is more profitable in industrial aspects. The extraction of beta carotene was done through maceration technique using cyclohexane while its characterization was done through FTIR and colorimeter. The high optical density was seen in the absorbance of 480nm of wavelength. The seed kernel was detoxified through soxhlet method of extraction, its characterization was done through FTIR and TLC. The fish feed was then formulated by mixing with Terminalia catappa (badam) leaves powder along with the base feed (vegetable peel wastes) to form pellets. A comparative study was done in which a set of fish was provided with artificially packed fish feed while the other set of fish were provided with the formulated fish feed. The fish was weighed three times a week. The fish feed with the naturally formulated feed showed increase in growth than the other fish feed with artificially packed feed.
