Abstract: FUCOXANTHIN-LOADED LIPOSOME-INCORPORATED HYDROGEL SYSTEM FOR ENHANCED SKIN DELIVERY AND ANTIOXIDANT ACTIVITY ABSTRACT The present invention relates to a fucoxanthin-loaded liposome-incorporated hydrogel for enhanced topical skin delivery, sustained drug release, and improved antioxidant activity. Fucoxanthin is a marine-derived carotenoid having antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, but its poor aqueous solubility, chemical instability, and limited skin permeability restrict its effectiveness in conventional topical formulations. The invention combines fucoxanthin-loaded phospholipid liposomes with a Carbopol-based hydrogel. The liposomes are prepared by a thin-film hydration technique followed by sonication, homogenization, and purification. The optimized liposomal dispersion is incorporated into a hydrogel matrix to improve skin residence, spreadability, stability, and controlled release. The formulation is optimized using a Design of Experiments (DoE) approach and characterized for particle size, zeta potential, entrapment efficiency, morphology, pH, viscosity, spreadability, drug content, and stability. UV–Visible spectroscopy, FTIR, SEM, TEM, and EDAX may be employed for characterization. In-vitro drug release, DPPH antioxidant activity, and scratch-assay evaluation are used to assess performance. The resulting formulation provides an improved topical delivery platform for fucoxanthin with potential applications in skin protection, oxidative-stress-related conditions, wound healing, photoaging, pharmaceutical, and cosmeceutical formulations.
