MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641068167 A) filed by P K Ajeet Babu on May 31, 2026, for Functional Integration Of Graphene Derived From Sulfurcrosslinked Elastomeric Feedstock Into Technical Textile Structures.

Abstract: A graphene reinforced textile (100) and a method of manufacture are disclosed. The technical textile comprises textile fibers (114), a polymer matrix (116), and turbostratic graphene platelets (110) derived from a sulfur cross linked elastomeric feedstock (101). The feedstock is pretreated (102), pyrolysed (103) to produce carbon char (104), and graphitised (105) by flash Joule heating (105a) or microwave pyrolysis (105b) to obtain graphene platelets (110). The platelets are surface functionalised (107) with a coupling agent (112) and integrated (108) into the polymer matrix (116) to form an interfacial network (118) bridging the textile fibres (114) and matrix (116), thereby improving stress transfer and inhibiting crack propagation. The resulting textile exhibits enhanced tensile strength, tear resistance, fatigue durability, antistatic and electromagnetic shielding conductivity, flame resistance, and laundering durability, while enabling circular utilisation of sulfur cross linked elastomeric waste with reduced material cost and embodied carbon.
