MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611069790 A) filed by Indian Institute Of Technology Delhi on June 03, 2026, for Genetically Engineered Escherichia Coli Strain And Recombinant Protein Production Using Lactose-Induced Lac Promoter.

Inventors include Narang, Atul; Srivastava, Preeti; and Kumari, Shilpi.

The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.

Abstract: The present disclosure provides a genetically engineered Escherichia coli strain that includes at least one additional copy of a lacY gene chromosomally integrated into the genome of the strain. The genetically engineered Escherichia coli strain is capable of simultaneous consumption of glucose and lactose. The present disclosure also provides a method for producing a recombinant microorganism as well as a method for producing a recombinant protein by culturing the genetically engineered Escherichia coli strain in a culture medium free of IPTG.
