MUMBAI, India, June 30 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202421079925 A) filed by Polynovators India Pvt Ltd on October 21, 2024, for Gesture-Based Vehicle Control System.
Inventors include Parag Jaju; and Lokesh Shambharkar.
The application for the patent was published on June 26, 2026, under issue no. 26/2026.
Abstract: The present disclosure provides a gesture-based vehicle control system (100) configured to enable drivers to operate vehicle functions through predefined hand gestures within a gesture detection zone (110). The system comprises at least two imaging sensors (102, 104) mounted at different positions, such as the instrument cluster (106) and roof console (108), to capture complementary perspectives of driver gestures around the steering wheel (112). An image processing unit integrates a multi-sensor fusion module, gesture recognition module, and validation module to identify and verify gestures. A control unit generates corresponding control signals which are transmitted to the vehicle ECU for activation of functions including indicators (118, 120), headlights (122, 124), and wipers. A dynamic role assignment module, supported by a background contrast analyzer, confidence scoring algorithm, and adaptive exposure control (138), ensures robust recognition across diverse lighting and environmental conditions.
