Abstract: The present invention relates to a herbal gel formulation comprising Panax ginseng extract incorporated within a biocompatible polymeric gel matrix for localized therapeutic applications. The formulation demonstrates significant antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, and cytoprotective activities while maintaining acceptable biocompatibility under ex vivo conditions. The invention combines the bioactive potential of ginseng phytoconstituents with the advantages of a carbopol -based mucoadhesive gel delivery system to enhance localized retention, stability, and therapeutic action. The gel formulation contains ginseng-derived bioactive compounds including ginsenosides, polysaccharides, phenolics, and flavonoids incorporated into a hydrogel matrix containing Carbopol 940, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), propylene glycol, and stabilizing agents. The formulation exhibits concentration-dependent free radical scavenging activity, ferric reducing antioxidant capacity, membrane stabilization properties, and inhibition of protein denaturation, indicating broad-spectrum anti-inflammatory and antioxidant potential. The invention is intended for biomedical, dental, oral mucosal, periodontal, regenerative, and topical therapeutic applications. Potential uses include management of periodontal inflammation, oral ulcers, post-surgical healing, mucosal irritation, oxidative stress—related tissue injury, wound healing, and localized inflammatory conditions. The gel formulation may also function as a carrier system for additional therapeutic agents. The invention provides a plant-based, biocompatible, and cost- effective therapeutic platform integrating natural phytotherapy with localized drug delivery technology for improved clinical outcomes.
