The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.
Abstract: A non-cotton antimicrobial medical gauze and a method for manufacturing the same are disclosed. Fibers extracted from Calotropis gigantea stems are subjected to retting, scouring, bleaching, and alkali treatment, blended with bamboo fibers, and woven into a gauze fabric. Gossypin, a flavonoid extracted from Hibiscus vitifolius flowers, is impregnated onto the gauze through an aqueous treatment process. The resulting gauze exhibits enhanced antibacterial activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, improved wound-healing capability, low hemolytic activity, high biocompatibility, and non-irritant characteristics. The invention provides a sustainable, biodegradable, and cost-effective alternative to conventional cotton-based and chemically treated wound dressings. The gossypin-impregnated Calotropis gigantea gauze is particularly suitable for wound care, burn treatment, surgical dressings, and other biomedical applications requiring antimicrobial protection and tissue compatibility
