Abstract: The present invention relates to a graphene-carbon nanotube reinforced epoxy hybrid composite and a method for its fabrication, designed for high-impact and thermally stable structural applications, particularly in sports safety equipment. The composite comprises an epoxy resin matrix incorporated with 0.5 wt% graphene nanoplatelets and 0.5-1 wt% carbon nano tubes (CNTs), optionally reinforced with short glass fibers to enhance load-bearing capability. Uniform dispersion of nanofillers is achieved through ultrasonic processing with controlled cooling to prevent agglomeration and thermal degradation. The mixture is subsequently subjected to mechanical stirring, hand lay-up casting, and hot compression molding under controlled pressure and temperature conditions to reduce void content and improve fiber-matrix interfacial bonding. The cured composite demonstrates significantly enhanced impact energy absorption, fracture toughness, storage modulus, flexural strength, and thermal stability compared to conventional epoxy systems. The synergistic interaction between graphene and CNTs forms a three-dimensional reinforcing network that restricts crack propagation and improves stress transfer efficiency. The invention provides a lightweight, high-strength composite material suitable for protective helmets, guards, and other impact-resistant sports safety components.
