MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641121940 A) filed by Christ University on October 12, 2026, for Green Nanotechnology-Based Synthesis Of Manganese Oxide Nanoparticles Derived From Justicia Wynaadensis Of Kodagu Region.

Inventors include C Kavana Somaiah; and Arun K B.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The invention formulate a method for green synthesis and characterization of MnO (Manganese oxide) nanoparticle using Justicia wynaadensis, a medicinal shrub has been reported from the Western Ghats of Karnataka, Kodagu district, traditionally harvested during monsoon. This approach outlined in the current invention involves preparation of a decoction on adding the fresh plant sample to water, subsequently optimization of the experimental parameters where the plant extracts acted as a reducing agent was added to metal salt which served as a precursor and stirred at room temperature, with pH maintained. The shift in color from purple to dark brown signified the presence of synthesized nanoparticles, the solution was centrifuged; the pellet was sequentially washed with water and ethanol, then air dried overnight. The dried sample was calcinated. Subsequently, characterization of the synthesized MnO nanoparticles was carried out using UV-Visible spectroscopy, FTIR, and SEM, confirming nanoparticle formation.
