Abstract: The present invention is a handheld text-to-speech reader, which is designed to assist visually impaired persons in reading printed texts independently. The device is able to read texts from books, newspapers, documents, medicine labels, and product packages using its built-in camera module. The captured image is then processed by an Optical Character Recognition (OCR) technology, which converts printed texts into digital text format. The recognized text is then converted into clear and natural voice output using an integrated Text-to-Speech (TTS) system. The voice output is provided through a built-in speaker or headphone connection, enabling users to listen comfortably. The system is able to operate without internet connectivity, making it reliable for use in any environment. The device has also been ergonomically designed in a similar manner to a barcode scanner, making it easy to hold and operate. It has simple buttons that allow the user to perform tasks such as scanning, volume control, and operating the device without the need for a display screen or a smartphone. This invention has the advantage of being portable, affordable, and easy to use, making it a great invention in the field of assistive technology. It also improves accessibility, independence, and inclusive design by allowing the visually impaired to read at any time and in any place.
