Abstract: The present invention discloses a sustainable and environmentally friendly method for the green synthesis of carbon dots (CDs) derived from Moringa oleifera leaves using a facile hydrothermal approach. The method utilizes naturally occurring, flavonoid-rich moringa leaves as the sole carbon precursor, thereby eliminating the need for hazardous chemicals commonly associated with conventional carbon dot fabrication. The synthesized MCDs exhibit strong green fluorescence, excitation-dependent emission behaviour, and notable pH sensitivity characterized by dual emission peaks under varying pH conditions. Structural and optical analyses confirm the nanoscale size, functional group composition, and luminescent properties of the MCDs. Owing to their biocompatibility, sustainability, and pH-responsive fluorescence, the synthesized carbon dots are suitable for applications in sensing, bioimaging, and environmental monitoring.
