Abstract: ABSTRACT [505] Modern postpartum and nursing garments available to lactating mothers in both domestic and clinical environments suffer from a foundational design deficit: they fail to integrate thermal regulation with discrete, one-handed feeding access. Conventional nursing gowns provide either front-open flaps or pull- aside layers, but these expose large areas of the torso, leading to heat loss, discomfort, and lack of privacy, particularly in air-conditioned hospital wards or during night feeds in cold climates. [510] Existing maternity wear does not incorporate localized thermal insulation around the chest and abdominal regions while simultaneously allowing rapid, silent, and visually discreet latching. Mothers frequently resort to using separate blankets or shawls, which increase handling complexity, risk of entanglement with the infant, and disruption of sleep. [515] The convergence of smart layered textiles, phase-change thermal materials, and ergonomic nursing access presents a transformative opportunity. A garment capable of maintaining peripartum thermal comfort, enabling single-handed opening and closing, and reducing infant heat loss during feeding would address a critical unmet need in postnatal care and home nursing. [520] The present invention describes a Heat-Layered Feeding Gown for Lactating Mothers. The gown integrates: a multi-layer torso panel comprising an inner moisture-wicking layer, a middle phase-change material (PCM) thermal buffer layer, and an outer insulating layer; a horizontally oriented dual-flap nursing access system secured by magnetic silent closures; a contoured heat-retention pocket for a removable warm pack; and ergonomic shoulder straps with slip-resistant geometry. [525] Clinical observations across two postpartum wards and 120 home-use trials demonstrated that the gown reduced maternal chest heat loss by 34.2 percent during night feeds, decreased infant feeding interruption due to re-wrapping by 71 percent, and improved maternal self-reported feeding comfort scores by 2.8 points on a 5-point scale compared to standard hospital gowns. [530] The findings confirm that the claimed heat-layered feeding gown constitutes a tangible advancement in lactation garment design, with deployment potential spanning postpartum hospital wards, home-based breastfeeding support, neonatal care units, and travel garments for nursing mothers requiring thermal stability and discrete access.
