Abstract: TITLE: HEATER COOLER UNIT ABSTRACT: The present invention relates to a heater–cooler unit (100) for medical temperature regulation during cardiothoracic procedures. The heater–cooler unit (100) comprises a patient tank (400), a warm cardioplegia tank (405), and a cold cardioplegia tank (410) disposed within a common enclosure, each forming a hydraulically isolated thermal reservoir. A first magnetic drive pump (485) circulates water from the patient tank (400) through an external patient heat exchanger in a closed-loop manner. A second magnetic drive pump (425) circulates water from a selected one of the warm cardioplegia tank (405) and the cold cardioplegia tank (410) through an external oxygenator heat exchanger. A cardioplegia solenoid valve (460) permits circulation from only one cardioplegia tank at a time. Heating is provided by heater rods (500), and cooling is provided by a compressor (415), a refrigeration evaporator (420), and a condenser (450), under control of a microcontroller board (498).
