Abstract: A holographic optical communication system and method for high-density data transfer are disclosed. Digital information is mapped into multiple data streams that are encoded as holographically distinguishable optical channel representations and combined into a composite holographic modulation pattern. A controllable optical modulation unit modulates optical radiation according to the pattern to generate a structured optical wavefront carrying multiple data streams through a shared optical propagation medium. A spatially resolving receiving unit obtains spatial optical measurements of the received wavefront, and a reconstruction processor separates the holographic channels and recovers corresponding data. A channel-state estimator determines propagation-dependent characteristics including wavefront distortion, channel interference, attenuation, or alignment variation. Subsequent holographic modulation patterns are adaptively modified according to the determined channel characteristics. Spatial redundancy, adaptive channel allocation, wavefront compensation, and multidimensional optical multiplexing may be employed to improve transmission density, channel separation, reliability, and tolerance to propagation disturbances.
