MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611110896 A) filed by Noida Institute Of Engineering And Technology Pharmacy Institute on September 16, 2026, for Humidity-Resistant Amorphous Cannabidiol Microparticles With Integrated Antioxidant For Dry Powder Inhalation.

Inventors include Dr. Anjna Rani; and Pentela Bhavani.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a carrier-free, humidity-resistant amorphous dry powder microparticle composition for metered-dose pulmonary inhalation delivery of cannabidiol in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The composition comprises cannabidiol co-spray-dried with sodium stearate as a matrix-forming surfactant excipient, trileucine as a humidity-resistant shell-forming agent, and alpha-tocopherol as an antioxidant, yielding spherical amorphous microparticles with corrugated surface texture, mass median aerodynamic diameter of 3 to 5 micrometres, and fine particle fraction exceeding 55 percent. The trileucine shell prevents moisture- induced crystallisation and aerodynamic degradation under tropical accelerated storage conditions, while alpha-tocopherol co-encapsulation retains at least 85 percent cannabidiol content over 90 days. Upon pulmonary deposition, sodium stearate self-assembles into solubilising nanostructures achieving more than 15-fold dissolution enhancement over crystalline cannabidiol. The invention provides a scalable, industrially applicable carrier-free inhalation platform for corticosteroid-sparing anti- inflammatory pulmonary therapy.
