Abstract: A chemiresistive methane gas sensor (110) is disclosed for room-temperature methane detection. The sensor (110) comprises an electrically insulating substrate (112), first and second conductive electrodes (114a, 114b), and a surface-engineered composite nanofiber sensing layer (108) electrically bridging the electrodes (114a, 114b). The sensing layer (108) comprises coaxially electrospun titanium oxide and vanadium oxide composite nanofibers having elongated primary fiber bodies, nanoscale branch-like surface formations, interconnected pores, and exposed oxide interfacial regions defining a three-dimensional cactus-like morphology. An electrical measurement circuit (116) measures a methane-induced variation in resistance, conductivity, current, or voltage, and a controller (118) determines methane concentration using stored calibration data. A humidity sensor (120) may provide compensation for humidity-dependent variation. The sensor operates without continuous heating and is suitable for portable, industrial, environmental, and IoT-based methane monitoring systems. Figure 1 will be the reference.
