MUMBAI, India, July 24 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611065617 A) filed by Chandigarh University on May 25, 2026, for Hybrid Biometric Lock Using Fingerprint And Sequential Press Count Authentication.

Abstract: The invention relates to a smart locking system integrating biometric fingerprint recognition with press-count-based behavioural authentication for enhanced access security. The system comprises a fingerprint sensor, display module, navigation buttons, controller unit, memory module, and electromechanical locking mechanism housed within a compact enclosure. During setup, an authorized user registers fingerprints and defines a password by assigning specific press counts and sequences to selected fingers. The system verifies both the fingerprint identity and the corresponding finger press-count sequence during authentication. The controller activates the locking mechanism to permit access upon successful matching. The display and navigation buttons facilitate password setup, reset, and user interaction without requiring external devices or network connectivity. The invention further supports secure logging of authentication attempts for monitoring and security analysis. The system enhances resistance against spoofing, unauthorized access, phishing, tampering, and brute-force attacks in residential, commercial, and high-security environments by combining biometric and behavioural authentication.
