MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611109588 A) filed by G. L. Bajaj Institute Of Technology And Management on September 12, 2026, for Hydrogel-Assisted Superhydrophilic Condenser Cover For Shallow-Tilt Solar Stills.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: Disclosed is a solar still for producing distillate from saline water. A transparent glass condenser cover encloses a vapor space above a basin and is inclined from 5 degrees to 15 degrees relative to horizontal. An inner condensation surface of the condenser cover carries a hydrogel-assisted superhydrophilic layer defining a static water contact angle not greater than 20 degrees and contact-angle hysteresis below 5 degrees. Water vapor generated from the saline water condenses on the layer as a film rather than retained discrete droplets. A collection channel extends along a lower region of the condenser cover in fluid communication with the layer and receives the condensate film moved along the inner condensation surface by a gravity component parallel to the cover. The low-hysteresis film-drainage path supports condensate removal at shallow inclination while limiting condensate residence, re-evaporation, and optical obstruction.
