Abstract: A hydrogen pipeline safety system for an underground pipeline network, comprising a plurality of hydrogen specific gas sensor nodes deployed along an underground hydrogen pipeline, each gas sensor node configured to detect hydrogen concentration at trace levels and generate a sensor output signal, one or more edge processing units communicatively coupled to local clusters of the hydrogen specific gas sensor nodes and to receive the sensor output signals in real time, an anomaly detection module executed by each edge processing unit and to determine a leak event based on hydrogen concentration patterns, pressure trends, temperature trends, or rate of change thresholds, a fault localization module to estimate a leak location by computing a spatial leak signature, electrically actuated shutoff valves configured for autonomous closure upon leak detection, a cloud based monitoring interface to transmit leak alerts, estimated leak locations, leak severity data, and predictive maintenance information in real time.
