Abstract: Disclosed is an illuminated periodontal curette comprising a curette handle, a curved shank extending from the curette handle toward a subgingival region, and a working blade joined to the curved shank for contacting a tooth surface within the subgingival region. An annular light unit is disposed around the curved shank adjacent to the working blade and emits circumferential illumination toward the working blade. A battery unit is disposed within the curette handle and is connected to the annular light unit. A switch unit is carried by the curette handle and controls energy supply to the annular light unit. The annular light unit provides illumination near the working blade during periodontal debridement while the curette remains self-contained and suitable for hand-held periodontal procedures.
