Inventors include Ms. Shivani Sharma; Dr. Mukesh Kumar Singh; Mr. Vidhan Chand Bala; Mr. Manoj Mahto; and Mr. Luqman Siddiqi.
The application for the patent was published on October 09, 2026, under issue no. 41/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising petroleum ether extract obtained from the leaves of Nepeta hindostana (family Lamiaceae) and its method of preparation. The leaves are collected from the banks of the Gomati River, Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, India, authenticated, dried, and powdered. The extract is obtained by Soxhlet extraction using petroleum ether for 72 hours and concentrated using a rotary flash evaporator. The extract demonstrates significant antioxidant activity with DPPH radical scavenging EC50 of 46.83 micrograms per millilitre, dose-dependent metal chelating activity, and concentration-dependent total reducing power. The composition also exhibits broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity against Escherichia coli, Enterococcus faecalis, Lactobacillus, and Streptococcus mutans with zones of inhibition ranging from 11 to 22 millimetres. The invention provides a natural, cost-effective alternative to synthetic antioxidant and antimicrobial agents for pharmaceutical, nutraceutical, and food preservation applications.
