Inventors include Dr. S. Umamageshwari; and Dr. G. Manonmani.
The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to an Indian mallow blended woven fabric and an eco-friendly process for producing the fabric. Whole Abutilon indicum plants are subjected to water retting for about three weeks to loosen fibrous material, followed by washing, shade drying and separation into individual filaments. The recovered Indian mallow fibres are blended in a 50:50 proportion with cotton fibres or viscose fibres. The blended fibres are carded, drawn and ring-spun to obtain yarn. A woven fabric is produced in a 1×1 plain-weave construction using cotton or viscose yarn as warp and the corresponding Indian mallow blended yarn as weft. The fabric provides a useful balance of weight, thickness, strength, elongation, crease recovery, abrasion resistance, absorbency, air permeability and moisture management. In optional embodiments, the fabric is enzyme-treated with amylase, mordanted using wood ash, lemon or aloe vera, and dyed using a water-lily-derived natural dye for sustainable textile and upholstery applications.
