MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641096516 A) filed by National Institute Of Technology Calicut on August 10, 2026, for Ink And Method For Direct Ink Writing Of Tungsten Carbide-Cobalt Components.

Inventors include Dr. Basil Kuriachen; Dr. Sharu B K; Akash Shaji; Aswini Sivakumar; Nishanth M Nair; Aadithyan S Nair; and Clevin Dominic M.

The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.

Abstract: A method (300) for fabricating a tungsten carbide-cobalt component by direct ink writing additive manufacturing includes mixing (302) tungsten carbide-cobalt powder with a polyvinylpyrrolidone binder, a polyethylene glycol plasticizer, and an isopropyl alcohol solvent to form a mixture. The method (300) includes stirring (304) the mixture to form a homogeneous ink, and extruding (306) the ink through a direct ink writing nozzle and depositing the ink layer by layer. The method (300) includes retaining (308) a shape of the deposited ink to form a green body, drying (310) the green body to evaporate the solvent, thermally de-binding (312) the green body to remove the binder and the plasticizer, and sintering (314) the de-bound body to achieve densification.
