MUMBAI, India, Nov. 2 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202621059686 A) filed by Mahesh Govind Karmalkar on May 11, 2026, for Integrated Roadway Runoff Moderation And Groundwater Recharge System For Impervious Transportation Surfaces.

Inventor includes Mahesh Govind Karmalkar.

The application for the patent was published on October 30, 2026, under issue no. 44/2026.

Abstract: The invention provides an integrated roadway runoff moderation and groundwater recharge system for impervious or substantially impervious transportation surfaces. Opposed roadway surface portions are configured to slope inwardly towards a centrally aligned longitudinal runoff conveyance and recharge corridor positioned within and/or below the adjoining roadway surface. The corridor receives and conveys precipitation-generated runoff and may comprise sediment regulation, filtration, temporary retention, infiltration and groundwater recharge portions arranged continuously or in hydraulic segments. Cross-drain and overflow arrangements permit terrain-responsive redistribution and controlled discharge of excess runoff towards existing drainage systems, natural drainage pathways or designated outfalls. The system may additionally receive residual runoff from adjoining impervious surfaces, including rooftop drainage outlets, following source-level collection, storage, recharge, infiltration, detention or controlled release. Selected embodiments incorporate maintenance access, protective cross-over slabs and intermittent glare-control modules comprising fins, louvres, screens, panels, vegetation or combinations thereof. The arrangement provides integrated roadway drainage, runoff moderation and controlled groundwater recharge while permitting adaptation to urban, highway and other transportation environments.
