MUMBAI, India, Oct. 26 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202611114864 A) filed by Chandigarh University on September 25, 2026, for Intelligent Self-Extinguishing Cable System With Segmented Fire-Retardant Chambers And Real- Time Thermal Monitoring.

Inventor includes Kush Kumar.

The application for the patent was published on October 23, 2026, under issue no. 43/2026.

Abstract: The invention relates to electrical cable safety and provides a multi-layered cable system comprising a stranded copper or aluminium central conductor (101), a heat- sensitive sensor thread (102), an inner polymer shield (103), a segmented chamber layer (104) containing silica aerogel granules (107) and heat-responsive microcapsules (108), and a thermochromic outer jacket (105). A microcontroller unit (109) receives temperature telemetry, communicates a warning condition to a grid- health monitoring backend at a first threshold, and triggers a relay for cable-segment isolation at a second threshold. When localized heating reaches the microcapsules (108), the affected chamber releases fire-retardant material and silica aerogel granules while adjacent chambers remain isolated. Following suppression and cooling, an insulating crust forms over the affected region. The system provides thermal monitoring, visual fault indication, localized fire suppression and automated isolation.
