Abstract: Various aspects of the present disclosure relate to intermediate node determination. In an aspect, a first device (for example, a BS) receives, from a set of one or more second devices (for example, one or more of a relay, an IAB node, a UE, or a repeater), proximity information associated with one or more third devices (for example, an ambient internet of things (A-IoT) device). The proximity information is indicative of whether the one or more third devices are proximate to the set of one or more second devices. The first device, determines, based at least in part on the proximity information, a subset of one or more second devices as one or more intermediate nodes between the first device and the one or more third devices. Moreover, the first device communicates with the one or more third devices via at least one second device of the subset of one or more second devices. In this way, it is possible to improve communication performance in the backscatter communication system efficiently, especially in terms of overhead saving.
