MUMBAI, India, July 7 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641078820 A) filed by Ms. K. Rajeswari on June 25, 2026, for Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Gaussian Mixture Diagnostic System For Uncertainty- Aware Outcome-Based Educational Assessment With Course Learning Outcome-Level Prescriptive Intervention.
Inventors include Ms. K. Rajeswari; Dr. M. Harikumaran; and Dr. P. Vijayalakshmi.
The application for the patent was published on July 03, 2026, under issue no. 27/2026.
Abstract: The present invention relates to the development of a computer-implemented Interval Type-2 Fuzzy Gaussian Mixture Diagnostic System for uncertainty-aware Outcome-Based Education assessment is disclosed. The system receives multi-source student performance evidence, normalizes the evidence, estimates Gaussian Mixture Model parameters using an Expectation-Maximization algorithm, and constructs Interval Type-2 upper and lower membership functions with a data-driven Footprint of Uncertainty. An Interval Type-2 fuzzy inference engine processes the input evidence through a rule base and produces an aggregate interval-valued output. A Karnik-Mendel type-reduction module computes a type-reduced interval and a crisp diagnostic score. A Course Learning Outcome-level prescriptive intervention engine computes attainment gaps and generates targeted interventions such as prerequisite bridging, scaffolded practice, formative micro-assessment, peer tutoring, adaptive learning practice and enrichment. The system is specifically configured to identify a Developing learner cohort that is often hidden by crisp threshold systems and Type-1 fuzzy systems. Optional modules provide explainability, robustness testing, fairness monitoring, audit logging, LMS/SIS integration and hybrid ensemble prediction. The invention produces interpretable diagnostic scores and accreditation-ready Continuous Quality Improvement evidence for educational institutions implementing OBE. FIG.1
