MUMBAI, India, Aug. 17 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202513005403 A) filed by Council Of Scientific And Industrial Research, An Indian on January 22, 2025, for Ionic-Asymmetric Aliphatic Diamine Terminated Rylenedicarboximide Organic Electronic Materials.

The application for the patent was published on August 14, 2026, under issue no. 33/2026.

Abstract: Organic solar cells (OSCs) are the future technology to provide electricity at lower cost and low carbon footprint and roll-to-roll compatibility. Low temperature solution processable organic electron transport layer materials soluble in orthogonal solvent to other layer materials are in demand.The present invention describes the aliphatic diamine terminated rylenedicarboximide products, i.e, ionic asymmetric(2-aminoethyl)1,3propanediamine)3,4,9,10-naphthalenedicarboximide (qAPA-NDCI) of Formula 1 and (2-aminoethyl)1,3propanediamine)3,4,9,10-perylenedicarboximide (qAPA-PDCI)of Formula 2 and synthesis thereof. These compounds show excellent properties in OSC as electron transport layer (ETL) material with average power conversion efficiency ~7%. These ETL materials show good film forming capabilities and possess crystalline nature which is essential for facile charge transport. On quarternisation, these ammonium salts possess molecular dipole moment which lowers their work function and improve their mobilities, conductivities and device performance. Although high efficiencies have been reported with rylene based ETL materials which are synthesized using multistep and complicated reactions, compounds of Formula I have promising results in OSCs following easy synthesis methods and device fabrication conditions. These molecules also showed good performance as probe molecules for detection of biomolecules.
