Abstract: ABSTRACT IoT-BASED ADAPTIVE TRAFFIC SIGNAL SYSTEM WITH SENSOR FUSION AND EMERGENCY PREEMPTION An IoT-based adaptive traffic signal control system (100) employing sensor fusion for real-time per-lane vehicle density estimation and emergency vehicle preemption. The system comprises inductive loop sensors (112) and infrared vehicle detectors (114) at each lane, RFID readers (116) for detecting emergency vehicle transponders (118), and an intersection controller (120) that dynamically extends or truncates green phases based on queue density thresholds. An emergency preemption module (128) overrides the signal cycle upon RFID detection to grant priority passage. Intersection metrics are transmitted to a cloud dashboard (152) over cellular communication. The system operates autonomously without centralised fibre infrastructure. [
