Abstract: ABSTRACT OF THE INVENTION An IoT-enabled machine learning system and method for automated classification of retinal diseases is disclosed. The system comprises an image acquisition module employing a fundus camera and/or an ESP32-CAM module to capture retinal images; a pre-processing module for noise reduction and contrast enhancement; a feature extraction module for identifying clinically relevant features such as blood vessels, microaneurysms, exudates and lesions; a classification module employing K-Nearest Neighbours and Support Vector Machine algorithms to classify retinal images into Normal, Diabetic Retinopathy, Glaucoma and Other Abnormality categories; a MATLAB-based graphical user interface; and an IoT communication module employing ESP8266/ESP32 microcontrollers to transmit results to a remote server and generate alerts to healthcare providers. The system achieves classification accuracy of about 93% to 97% within an average processing time of under 5 seconds, facilitating rapid, low-cost, remote diagnosis of retinal diseases suited to rural and resource-constrained healthcare settings.
