Abstract: The present invention discloses an IoT-based smart energy meter with real-time monitoring and tariff management designed to improve energy visibility, billing accuracy, and load safety in residential, commercial, and industrial environments. The system is controlled by an ESP32 microcontroller and integrates an energy measurement module, real-time clock, OLED display, buzzer, Wi-Fi/Bluetooth communication, and optional load control relay. Voltage, current, power, energy, power factor, and tariff information are displayed locally and transmitted to an Android/web application for remote monitoring and billing. The meter supports both prepaid and postpaid modes, enforces load limits, detects tamper conditions, and logs comprehensive energy and event data for analysis and audit. Additional features include time-of-day tariffs, cloud analytics, OTA updates, and multi-user access control. The invention offers a scalable, cost-effective, and user-friendly solution for smart homes, hostels, apartments, small industries, and rural electrification projects. By combining precise energy measurement, dynamic tariff application, IoT connectivity, and intelligent load management, the proposed system enhances energy awareness, reduces misuse, and supports efficient power distribution and billing.
