MUMBAI, India, Aug. 12 -- Intellectual Property India has published a patent application (202641092135 A) filed by Vignans Foundation For Science, Technology And Research on July 29, 2026, for Local Area Satellite For Security Surveillance Using Lora Technology.

Inventors include D. Tarun Sai; D. Dinesh; Dr. Bishnu Prasad Mishra; Dr. K. Lova Raju; and Dr Naga Srinivasarao Chilamkurthy.

The application for the patent was published on August 07, 2026, under issue no. 32/2026.

Abstract: The LoRa has strong potential for its long-range communication and it has been established for a wide range of applications. In addition to local area satellite for security surveillance using LoRa technology, where the communication is secure, it consumes less power, accuracy in obstacle detection, less latency and especially for long range. These implemented LoRa satellite systems serve specific needs that are commonly used in both commercial and defence sectors. This- system proposes a specific local area pico-satellite for a security surveillance system that uses LoRa technology, which enables communication from Tx to satellite and satellite to Rx practically about 6 km and these satellite systems are working very accurately with a long footprint. There is a less interference with other frequencies and it use low frequencies (868-915 MHz) to have the best signal penetration level. Ensure this satellite system helps to maintain continuous monitoring of a footprint, such as a local area view (institution/military area). The satellite system does not relay on the internet instead it uses an uplink (node-A) and a downlink (node-B) Transceivers. The transceivers provide real-time data (RTD) and this system can detect the incoming obstacles around 360° using PIR sensors. Various experiments were carried out, to focusing on the commercial and military fields. Real-time testing was conducted for both on-air (6 km) and off-air (4 km) environments and was controlled using offline communication. The life expectancy of the battery backup system was evaluated as approximately 2 days and power consumption was about 3.5 watts after its backup automatically by using solar panels. The transmission distances between the Tx (node-A) and satellite (repeater) are 3 km and satellite to Rx (node-B) is 3 km within LOS (line of sight). The satellite LoRa technology is suitable for small-scale sectors such as (institutions/military bases) where there is a lack of aerial surveillance.
