Abstract: The system (100) includes A LoRa-IoT based smart waste monitoring system using PSO optimization comprising a smart trash bin level measurement unit (102), an ultrasonic sensor module (104), a GPS module (106), a microcontroller processing unit (108), a LoRa transceiver module (110), a solar panel unit (112), a rechargeable battery unit (114), an MQTT communication module (116), a cloud-based IoT-STBLM server (118), a PSO optimization engine (120), a dashboard monitoring interface (122), and a waste collection management module (124). The smart trash bin level measurement unit (102) monitors the unfilled level of a trash bin and determines the geographical position of the trash bin for real-time waste status assessment. The ultrasonic sensor module (104) measures the distance between the sensor and the waste surface to calculate the fill level of the trash bin. The GPS module (106) acquires location coordinates of the trash bin and provides geo-location data for route planning and dashboard visualization. The microcontroller processing unit (108) processes sensor measurements, computes fill level information, and controls communication and power management operations. The LoRa transceiver module (110) transmits monitored waste level data and location data over a long- range wireless communication network to the cloud platform. The solar panel unit (112) harvests solar energy for charging the rechargeable battery unit (114) and supports self-powered operation of the system. The rechargeable battery unit (114) stores electrical energy and supplies power to the sensing, processing, and communication modules during operation. The invention enhances real-time waste monitoring and facilitates intelligent route optimization for efficient solid waste management. The invention further promotes reduced fuel consumption, lower operational costs, improved collection efficiency, and environmentally sustainable urban waste collection.
